In 2003, a growing number of key actors were dissatisfied with the methods of organising the Civil Forums and their lack of political impact on decision-makers and civil society.
Therefore, past and present organisers of the Civil Forums established the Euro-Mediterranean Non-Governmental Platform, which today includes hundreds of associations from all 27 Euro-Mediterranean partner countries. The Platform works towards reinforcing the implication of civil society in the Barcelona Process and promoting the recognition of civil society as a key interlocutor in the countries of the region and in the framework of the EMP and new neighbourhood policies. Until 2005, the EMHRN hosted the Secretariat of the Platform, which then established its own secretariat in Paris. The EMHRN continues its involvement in the Platform, in particular through Executive Committee member Michel Tubiana, who is Secretary-General of the Platform. |
