Main Activities
1. Monitoring and Documentation: B'Tselem monitors the human rights situation in the Occupied Territories and document violations by taking testimonies from victims and witnesses, and gathering information from other sourcdes including the press, other NGOs and the military. On the basis of this information B'Tselem compiles statistics on topics including fatalities; house demolitions; detention; the Separation Barrier; checkpoints; expropriation of land. B'Tselem also corresponds with military authorities regarding incidents that may have involved wrongdoing or negligence by security forces.

2. Research and Publications: Over the past two years B'Tselem has conducted research and published reports on topics including abuse by security forces; family unification in East Jerusalem; the Separation Barrier, restrictions on movement, and punitive house demolitions. The reports are distributed to over 11,000 individuals and organizations in Israel and abroad.

3. Resource and Information Center: B’Tselem provides presentations, study tours, and briefings on human rights in the Occupied Territories to researchers, journalists, diplomats, policymakers, and the Israeli and international public. B'Tselem responds to hundreds of information requests via post and electronic mail. In addition, the organization maintains a trilingual web site containing information and statistics on all aspects of human rights in the territories, and distributes monthly email updates. B’Tselem also works closely with the local and international press to highlight human rights issues.

4. Advocacy and Public Education: B'Tselem works to raise awareness of the human rights situation in the Occupied Territories and generate commitment to the fundamental principles of human rights among Israelis. As part of this endeavour, B’Tselem gives lectures in public forums, places advertising in the Israeli media, distributes a Human Rights Newspaper, organizes public events and study tours, and engages in advocacy with government and military officials. Over the past two years B'Tselem has conducted public campaigns on topics including the Separation Barrier, house demolitions, Israel's siege policy, the use of human shields; lack of law enforcement on settlers; military accountability.

5. Video advocacy: B'Tselem is pioneering the use of video as a tool to promote human rights. The organization produces video shorts on various topics, has built a video archive with over 1,000 hours of footage and has a camera distribution program called Shooting Back, in which Palestinians living in high friction areas are given cameras and training to document their reality.
