EU Human Rights Mechanisms
EU relations with Mediterranean countries are taking place in the following frameworks: |
The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP) |
The Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, held in Barcelona on 27-28 November 1995, marked the starting point of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, a wide framework of political, economic and social relations between the Member States of the European Union and Partners of the Southern Mediterranean. |
The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) |
Launched in 2003, the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) aims at creating a ring of countries, sharing EU's democratic ideals and joining them in further integration without necessarily becoming full member states of the EU. |
The EU Strategic Partnership with the Mediterranean & the Middle East |
Adopted in June 2004, it provides a policy framework for these two regions with a view to promoting political, economic and social reform, generated from within the affected societies, as well as contributing to their socio-economic development. |
