Training guide on Human Rights Instruments in the Euro-Mediterranean Instruments
|
The EMHRN believes that the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP) and EU relations with the Arab world have provided the region with instruments that if efficiently implemented may enhance the promotion and protection of human rights and democratic principles as well as strengthen civil society. However, the Barcelona process and the new European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) are highly complicated and technical frameworks. There is a need to develop training schemes aimed at helping the advancement of NGOs’ capacities to work in particular on the EMP, the ENP and EU human rights’ mechanisms. That is why the idea came up for a guide presenting the human rights’ instruments in Euro-Mediterranean relations. This guide is part of a wider project aimed at strengthening the role of civil society in the Euromed region and is complementary to a PowerPoint presentation currently being presented during EMHRN seminars on the ENP in the region. The aim of this project is to facilitate civil society’s contribution to human rights promotion and protection within the Barcelona process and the ENP by promoting awareness, knowledge and pro-active use of these instruments. Michelle Pace has written this guide in cooperation with a steering committee composed of the EMHRN Secretariat staff members: Emilie Dromzee, Sandrine Grenier, Marc Schade-Poulsen, and educational consultant Diego Bang. |
