National Seminars

Four national seminars on the “Independence and Impartiality of the Judiciary” are organised in cooperation with local member organisations of the Justice Working Group.

The aim of the seminars is to:
  • Present the conclusions and recommendations of the regional report on Justice in the South and East of the Mediterranean Region drafted by the Working Group in 2004-2005.
  • Discuss and debate the situation of the national judiciary in respect of its independence and impartiality, i.e. the main problems and challenges, current and future reforms, progress/setbacks, etc.
  • Discuss the drafting of national reports on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.

These seminars are thus intended to stimulate a real, open and free dialogue between professionals of the judiciary (judges, lawyers, representatives of the ministry of Justice), NGOs, international organisations, international institutions dealing with Justice (EU delegation, UNDP, World Bank, etc.) and others interested persons in the countries concerned.
