Review the trial of Saber Ragoubi and Imed Ben Ameur
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network calls for the immediate review of the trial of Saber Ragoubi (24 years) and Imed Ben Ameur (34 years), who were sentenced to death on Sunday 30/12/2007 in Tunis. The two men appeared in court for “inciting the local population to kill one another” and “provoking riots and killings in Tunisia within the framework of a terrorist project”.
Tunisian human rights associations have denounced this trial as iniquitous. The list of irregularities and violations of procedure since the dossier has been opened give evidence:
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network:
-
Demands the pure et simple nullification of this verdict
-
Requests the re-examination of this affair by an impartial court which respects legal procedures recognized by international law
-
Calls upon the European Union to act, in accordance with EU policies concerning the death penalty
-
Expresses its opposition to the death penalty under all circumstances and in all places
