Training on Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming Date: 23-07-2008

A two- days training course on Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming (GM) was executed in Amman – Jordan on July 16-17, 2008 by the Gender Working Group / Euro – Mediterranean Human Rights Network ( EMHRN). Participating were (18) members of the Executive Committee, staff, members and volunteers of Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS).   The training was based on the Gender Mainstreaming Reference Kit (GMRK) which was developed lately by the EMHRN. The training was participatory and interactive, it focused on the role of general human rights organizations in promoting and protecting gender equality, provided conceptual frameworks about gender and related concepts, presented instruments and tools of Gender Mainstreaming (GM), conducted exercises on reviewing ACHRS referential documents including; vision, mission, goals, objectives etc. A draft GM policy document was prepared, in addition to a draft strategy with plans for implementation and monitoring. The new amended version of the vision, mission, goals and objectives - stressing gender equality and adopting gender mainstreaming approach- will be raised for approval by the Executive Committee of the Center in their meeting on July 30th 2008. Concept Notes on the main areas of work for the center - academic freedom, elections and parliaments, training on human rights etc. will be developed adopting a GM approach by related staff and volunteers by August 30th 2008. A session for discussing these concept notes will be organized in ten days.

 

This training comes in relation to the EMHRN efforts related in building capacities of the network members pertaining to Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming and the restructuring of Amman Center for Human Rights Studies.
