Press Freedom in Jordan

Evaluating the status of the press and freedom of expression from 1998-2002 (by Sa’eda Kilani).

This is the second report adopted by the EMHRN on press freedoms in Jordan. The report formed the basis of a motion for a resolution in the European Parliament in late 1998. The report aims at constituting a basis for the pursuit of the dialogue with the Jordanian government initiated in 1999 following EMHRN’s first report “Black Year for Democracy”. It attempts to evaluate the status of the press and freedom of expression in Jordan from 1998 to 2001. In addition, it embarks on the harsh amendments to the penal code that were introduced by the Ali Abul Ragheb government and its plans to abolish the information ministry.
